Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state preliminary tests show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior representative commented the incident made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
