The Substance
Director Coralie Fargeat's unflinching satire examines the tyranny of women's appearance and the feared consequences of advancing years. The veteran actress presents an inspired portrayal playing Elisabeth, a 50-year-old actress forced into starring in a fitness program on television. Pushed out thanks to her slimy boss Harvey, played by Dennis Quaid, she undergoes a mysterious and gruesome treatment called the Substance. This creates a new version of herself called Sue, leading to an increasingly toxic connection among both women. Friday 17 October, Paramount Plus
The Woman in Cabin 10 Film
This Agatha Christie-esque thriller includes Knightley as Laura, an ace reporter who opts for a hiatus from reporting on global conflict to join a luxury cruise with a gravely sick Norwegian shipping heiress and donor, her spouse, plus additional extremely wealthy passengers. Yet once an unknown lady falls into the sea overnight and everyone denies she ever existed, Laura's investigative instincts awaken. Streaming currently, the Netflix platform
This Supernatural Story
The acclaimed director pushes his creative boundaries through this clever paranormal narrative shot entirely from the perspective of the phantom. After a clan featuring mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their recent residence, the filming device – representing the ghost – follows them around. The teen shows signs of conscious of the ghostly being, and it seems defensive toward her. Yet what is the reason? It's a fun idea that remains concise, featuring a surprise that may be unexpected. Saturday 11 October, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
This Self-Referential Film
Cage embraces his unique fame through this autobiographical spoof. He plays a narcissistic film star named Nicolas Cage who accepts a lucrative offer to appear at a festive event in Mallorca for the wealthy Javi, played by Pedro Pascal. Hired by government spies to spy on the potential kingpin, Cage's unconventional method proves useful. October 11th, prime time, Channel 4
This Creepy Thriller
Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller remains effective without requiring a follow-up. Set in 1978 Denver, a series of kidnappings has rendered the children on edge. When Finney gets captured by “the Grabber” and locked up in a cellar, he fears the worst. However, the disconnected phone mounted nearby keeps ringing, with eerie communicators giving advice, while the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister might rescue him. A solid creepfest. October 11th, 10.50pm, the Film4 channel
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the struggle between spirituality and money, the winner is obvious for greed in this director's delightfully tacky true story of the disgraced religious broadcaster and her felon spouse. Andrew Garfield portrays the greedy Jim, who states at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple set about monetising the people's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, bad makeup and hypocrisy, though Chastain succeeds to show Tammy Faye as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, early morning, the Film4 channel
Black Bag
This period's another release from the filmmaker is a intelligence thriller as precise like the turtlenecks used by Fassbender's intelligence officer. His assignment is with uncovering a traitor among the team from a group of five – one of whom is his spouse. Each performer are experts of deadpan cool, so a delicious psychological game of fact versus fiction unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela take part the clever spy entertainment. This Friday, various showings, Sky Cinema Premiere
